Years ago the dragons wars took the lives of ¼ of Azoths population. It was the most destructive war in history even though it only lasted 5 years, and ended in Winter. Once the last dragon fighter was slain, the people of Azoth worked together to build their towns and neighboring towns so life could return to these places once more. Even some places in Dhar-Graul worked together to get this done, however, Munificence is not widely celebrated there.
On Munificence people celebrate that their relatives survived this atrocity and brought them into this world after it ended. Some celebrate that they survived this war, and war survivors are particularly celebrated on this day. Some towns hold special festivals for them called the “Saviors Festival”. |
On Munificence Noctis, the eve of the holiday, friends and family gather at one home having foods and drinks and crack their “Dragons Eggs”. This is reminiscent of the job towns folk did to assist in the war by finding dragons eggs and destroy them to prevent further dragon training. The eggs are crafted from paper and glue, decorated beautifully, filled with goods to help you welcome the new year, and contain a special spinning top. The one who cracks open the egg with the largest top is the Dragon King for the night. The Dragon King gets to wear a crown, and if he asks for drinks he must be brought a drink.
On Munificence day, everyone gives gifts to the ones they care for, and some leave offerings and take time to recognise their deities. There is a family meal, with drinks as there was the night before, and entertainment of bards in a local tavern or bards are brought into the home. |
Munificence foods: Spiced cakes, ham, breads, carrots and onions from harvest yield, and potatoes
